Community Hall

 

 

        Hall Users Meeting – PMW reported on revised layout of chairs, tables and piano.

        Agreed that five uniform small tables be purchased.

        Noted that a foot clinic starting to use the small hall.

        Future use of Surgery premises – noted intervention of Edwina Hart, AM, in pressing the Welsh Assembly about dental grants.

        Showcase 2000  -  agreed free use of hall for the next exhibition in 2009.

        Car Park layout – noted reconfiguration of school car park.

        Insurance – noted that the Council’s  insurers had negotiated a settlement on the claim made by Mrs. P. de Torres.

Four quotations requested for additional lighting.  Three replies from:

        Killay Electrics - £230.00

        Gower Electrics  -  £225.00

        Phillips Services  -  £250.00 plus VAT

However it had been pointed out that the current lights had been realigned and were they to be returned to their original position, the work may be unnecessary.  

 

Three quotations requested for kerbstone.  No respsonse.  MW agreed to progress the matter.

Nuisance by youths in the car park

Discussion took place about youths using the Hall car park as a play area and skateboard ramp.  Concern about health and safety and insurance implications apart from quiet enjoyment of the hall for legitimate users.  Agreed the car park a ‘no go’ area except for legitimate hall users and appropriate signs be erected (use Charterbrook) to this effect.  Youth newsletter to explain reasons.

Agreed that the Head Teacher at Pennard Primary School be asked to remove the timber left by their ‘round house’, which is used by the youths, and the caretaker be asked to close the gates as previously agreed.

Field

 

Dr. Waymark reported on damage that had taken place on the field which had been reported to the Police.  Insurance claim to be made.

Tender:  Four quotations sought for the fencing and two replies received.  The original quotation from Holland Landscapes for £373.00 and from Spencers £283.50 plus VAT. Agreed to accept the quotation from Spencers.

Burial Ground

 

Dr. Cook reported that cattle had got into the Burial Ground and caused considerable damage.  Spencers had cleared up the general mess but nine headstones needed to be re-erected, which was not covered by insurance.  Agreed quotations be sought for the re-erection of these headstones.

Parish Hall 

 

Noted the invitation from the Parish Hall to attend a Carol Concert at 6.30pm on 6th December in the National Trust Car Park in aid of St. Mary’s Tower, and their Newsletter about progress on the Church’s renovations.

 

 

Neighbourhood Watch 

 

Mrs. James reported on local crime statistics and that Pennard had the lowest crime rate for the area.  Two Police support Officers are due to be appointed for Bishopston, Kittle and Pennard.  Agreed to consider request for a base in Pennard when request officially received.

 

 

Community Councils

 

Noted the Community Forum on 21st November and Newsletter from One Voice Wales.

A website skateboard ramp will be demonstrated at the rear of the Community Hall on Saturday, 13th January 2007 between 1.0pm and 3.00pm.  The cost is £250.00 plus VAT, and mileage cost of £180.00 plus VAT.  Invite Bishopston and Llanrhidian Higher Community Councils to attend.  Letter and publicity to be arranged.
