Gower Community Councils Website

This page provides brief information about the Community Council, the amenities it provides, dates and agendas for future meetings, planning applications submitted and serves as an introduction to subsequent pages where visitors to this site can find contact details for the Community Councillors and minutes of council meetings.

Bishopston Community Council was established in 1982 and consists of 14 unpaid Community Councillors, covering the Bishopston and Murton Wards, and one paid Clerk to carry out the administrative work.

The main Council normally meets on the last Monday and the recreational facilities committee meets on the 2nd Monday of each month in the community centre at 7.30 pm (except August).

The Community Council owns an area of around 25 acres of land on the eastern edge of the village, and within the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Within this area it has provided a community centre, playing fields with football and cricket pitches, a children’s play area and a car park.
On the opposite side of the village the Community Council also owns and maintains,
Bishopston Nursery park and playground off Bishopston Rd and Wellfield.

The community centre is located at Murton Green Playing fields and provides:-

  • A main function room and a smaller meeting room
  • Kitchen equipped with a range of utensils and crockery etc.
  • Shower, changing room and toilet facilities, including a disabled wc.
  • Adequate parking facilities.

In addition to the playing fields the centre is available to hire for:-

  • Group meetings or classes
  • Children’s parties
  • Other parties or family gatherings

There are currently some regular slots available, so:-

  • If you are thinking of starting a new activity group or class?
  • Running a craft market or other sale?

To book or make enquiries about the hall please either ring 01792 232655 or email

We are the only Community Council that has its own Community Bus service which provides a bus service to the local community on Wednesday and Friday from  Bishopston and Murton to Mumbles and return.

Through its activities we aim to represent the members of the community in maintaining and improving the environment and facilities in the area.  It is important that we find out the views of the community, which is why we ask that if you have any matters you would like us to take into consideration, please contact us, details are on this website.
