Gowerton village is situated on the gateway
to the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, historically,
being the local education centre having a steel works and various
small coal mines within its heart. Although a small village, we
have both an English and Welsh medium comprehensive school, plus
two primary schools, with a total school population of around
3000.
The Community Council has worked extremely hard over the last
three years to honour the aspirations of our residents. A quarterly
newsletter keeps villagers informed of progress and is a means
of receiving continuous feedback. In this way we attempt to maintain
and develop our community collectively.
Our Community Council consists of 13 voluntary Community Councillors
and the Clerk. In 2002 the Council undertook a village appraisal
offering each resident the opportunity to comment on village life.
From this questionaire we gained a detailed insight as to how
villagers wished the village to develop, what services they wished
provided and how they perceived the Community Council in delivering
services with them. Preservation of the older buildings, provision
of facilities for youths and continuing with our landscape and
floral provision to enhance amenity were identified as residents
priorities.
We have recently become an active member in The Gowerton Partnership,
teaming up with local schools, police and the City and County
of Swansea to initialise more active progressions in relation
to litter, anti-social behaviour among other issues. We feel this
is a very positive step and look forward to the improvements we
will see in the village in taking this step.
We hope you enjoy looking at the website, and of course if you
have any questions or feedback please contact the Clerk - Serena
Thomas by either email or phone.
